Tyler’s Story
Tyler is a bright young man from Auburn, NE. After graduating from high school and struggling in college, Tyler was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Tyler’s family surrounded him with support. They knew the road ahead may be challenging, but believed Tyler’s intelligent, compassionate spirit would lead him on a successful path. In the following year, Tyler held a few jobs and made another attempt at going to college, but he continued to struggle to sustain success.
Tyler’s family learned about Autism Action Partnership’s workforce development program, PWS (Prosper Workforce Services) and encouraged him to connect with the program. Tyler met with PWS staff. They assessed his skills and interests and worked together to develop a plan for Tyler to build a positive work history. PWS staff were immediately impressed with Tyler’s kind and reliable nature and easily identified numerous employment skills which he possessed. With PWS’s assistance, Tyler focused his job search on employers in his area that matched his skills and interests. While Tyler looked for work, PWS staff conducted employer outreach. This two-pronged approach led to Tyler securing employment at a local university, where he remains employed today.
While PWS is primarily targeted to the Omaha-metro area, PWS staff were able to offer the expertise and support Tyler needed to continue advancing his career goals. Tyler is a great example of why Autism Action Partnerships seeks opportunities to expand our PWS services…to meet the growing needs of job seekers (with autism) and employers (seeking quality employees) across the state of Nebraska.
