About Nebraska Health Care Foundation
The mission of Nebraska Health Care Foundation is to invest in programs and initiatives designed to attract, develop, and retain Nebraskans who serve those living in a nursing home or assisted living facility. Our fundraising efforts help create a healthy ecosystem of care and employment that provides our citizens with opportunities to live a virtuous life.

Programs & Services Offered

  • Educational scholarships to those seeking to launch or advance a career in healthcare.

  • Healthcare-themed curriculum for grades 3-12 afterschool programs and summer camps across Nebraska.

  • Docuseries highlighting the connections formed between staff and residents of Nebraska’s nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

  • Equipment and resources (e.g., mannequins, intravenous therapy supplies, stethoscopes) used in training direct care workers. For example, NHCF is supporting the translation of a nurse aide training manual and workbook to Spanish.

  • Assistance to individuals working in Nebraska nursing homes and assisted living facilities following an emergency event, such as a tornado, flood, wildfire, or house fire.

  • Nebraska Health Care LEAD (Lead. Excel. Advance. Develop.), a year-long program that brings together long-term care workers from across Nebraska who have a desire to grow in the profession.

  • Co-sponsor of a television program covering dementia-related topics, with episodes available online for public education and professional in-service training.

  • Patient lift systems to Nebraska nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

  • $25 gives a gas gift card to a nursing home direct care worker experiencing a personal crisis.

  • $40 provides one blood pressure cuff for use in training a nursing assistant.

  • $60 gives a student a textbook needed to become a nursing assistant.

  • $125 helps provide food for a nursing home worker and his family following a house fire.

  • $2,000 provides a mannequin for use in training Nebraskans to work in a long-term care facility.

Dollars at Work

  • Partnered to distribute healthcare-themed curriculum used in grades 3-12 afterschool programs and summer camps across Nebraska. The program has reached 3,100 students in 30 sites across the state.

  • Produced a professional docuseries highlighting nursing homes and assisted living facilities in seven Nebraska towns to educate the public on what these care settings do.

  • Paid $50,000 in education scholarships to Nebraskans seeking a career in health care.

  • Translated a nursing assistant training manual and workbook to Spanish.

  • Facilitated a grant program totaling $10,000 to provide patient lift systems to four Nebraska nursing homes and assisted living communities.

  • Supported health sciences conferences for high school students.

  • Facilitated a year-long leadership development program for 15 long-term care workers and their mentors.

  • Supported the production of a TV and in-service program focused on dementia and related issues.
