Harlan's Story

It is Monday evening, Oct. 7, 2013. An Oakdale, Nebraska man is driving his tractor down a road in Tilden. The next few moments would change his life… forever.

According to the State Patrol, an SUV driven by an Omaha man swerved to avoid oncoming traffic. It hit the tractor - hard enough to roll it and eject the driver. Before the tractor driver could do anything, an oncoming car swerved, went into the ditch, and hit him, again.   

Harlan Brandt was life-flighted in critical condition. Miraculously, he lived.

The next few months were, as you can imagine, extremely challenging; however, Brandt found the Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska.

Through its resource facilitation program, he was introduced to knowledgeable professionals and a support group: men and women who assured him that he wasn’t alone.

“I didn’t know where to go or what to do,” said Brandt. “Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska helped me live with and understand my injury.”
